Sex and Religion

What a provocative title. I kind of like that. Anyhow, I have little to say in regard to this new information.

Sexuality was seen as almost an oppressive force or rather an inclination to fight in the Abrahamic religions and so societies that held values corresponding to the Abrahamic values would be sexually intolerant. Sex was mainly a matter of business and to engage in it beyond religious allowance was a societal rebellion. Those religions grew and those values became mainstream.

Even in Asian forms of philosophy sex was seen as a distraction from enlightenment and such and therefore it was often seen as a disgraceful activity.

Queer Theory is an ideology that rejects the norms of sexuality arguing in the fluidity of gender and the openness of sexuality in all forms. It basically says that our sexuality is an empowerment to what we are and therefore have the right to embrace it no matter what it may be. However this theory does, at least at most interpretation, reject pedophilia, rape, incest, and other such forms on atypical sexuality.

I still don’t quite understand the relationship between Queer Theory and the relationship between religion and sex.
